I purchased this appliance for work; I drink a lot of tea, most of it at work, and my coworkers are mostly tea-drinkers as well. We already had an electric kettle (something like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel-Cordless-Electric-Kettle/dp/B000PRN4BU/ref=sr_1_29?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1241979747&sr=8-29), but I got tired of having to refill it twice a day and wait around for it to boil every time I wanted tea. So when I got an unexpected check, I used it to purchase the Zojirushi that I’d been eying for a few weeks.
My coworkers were initially skeptical – after all, we had a perfectly serviceable electric kettle! After the first week, though, they all fell in love with it (they even read the manual to figure out all the nifty little features!). There are five of us that use it regularly now, and while I was afraid that 4 L would be overkill, it’s now usually necessary to top it off with another 1-2 L in the midafternoon to keep it from running dry before the end of the day. I’ve also noticed that I’m doing a better job at staying well-hydrated now that I can have tea whenever I want without a wait.
We’ve gotten into a pretty set routine where the last tea-drinker to leave (usually me) will empty the pot (a snap since the lid can be removed so easily), refill it, and set the timer for 10 hours. Voila! The scale build-up has been minimal and we arrive to fresh hot water every morning. I would like it if the timer could be set for a bit longer (say 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 intervals instead of 6-10) so that the pot doesn’t start boiling 4 hours before the first person arrives in the morning, but other than that, it’s perfect.
It’s also quite adorable. The little songs it plays when it has finished boiling and when you set the timer are beyond cute, and the color means that it actually looks quite nice in our office.

We are a household of tea drinkers and have used electric kettles for 20 years. This water heater holds and keeps hot enough water for the day without refilling. Love the swivel bottom for ease of use. Many very convenient features.
