Why Does My Water And Ice Dispenser On My Refridgerator Not Work Anymore?
i have a kenmore fridge thats about 4 years old. for some reason, my ice and water dispenser just stopped working. read through the troubleshooting section of the manual and cant seem to figure it out.
i havent messed with anything related to the fridge and the filter is still good.
any ideas?

If your refrigerator has a child lock out function you might check that first. Otherwise it has to be something that is common to both the water and ice dispenser. In my Kenmore (much older) the power is supplied to the door switches by a switch located at the top of the freezer and operated by the door. There are two, one for the freezer light and the other for the door switches. If the light in the freezer is not working there may be a power supply problem to the switches. If the light is working the switch in the freezer may be defective or there may be an electrical connection problem between the switch in the freezer and the ones in the door. …Good Luck…
I read about fridges because of learning about the one inherited in my purchased home and the dispenser wasn’t set up. some of these fridges have insulation problem and the lines freeze. i turned up the temp and it seemed to thaw out. some people open the freezer for a few hours, some have poke up the spout (don’t know if that a good idea). it would be nice to know if your water line is not plugged (the plastic on for the fridge). did you check it all for leaks, the entire line. is your fridge freezing colder?
did you try reseating the filter, is there an on switch and a light in the ice maker to know that its on. did you try unpluggin and pluggin in the fridge….mine has a switch on top and in the ice maker. is the ice maker making ice?
it’s more than likely that the water pipe(the tube that the water comes out of to dispense water and the one that gives water to make ice) is frozen as in the water is frozen inside of it. i would call the number on the troubleshooting manual and they should send someone to your house to take a look
The water supply could be blocked, like a kinked supply line when you last moved it. Also- the solenoid on the back when the water line hooks up could be bad- they are easy to replace if you have wrenches.
You probably crimped the supply line when moving the fridge. Or maybe someone accidently shut off the supply valve ?
Where is it located? On an outside wall? As mentioned, you may have frozen pipes if both the ice and water don’t work. Question – do you have ice inside the freezer (ie, does the icemaker work but the door doesn’t dispense)?
You might try the filter. When you open the doors is there a light at the top of the door frame that shows a red, amber or green light? The filter should be at the bottom front, below the doors. If you’ve had it 4 years and don’t know much about it, its possible you haven’t changed the water filter in 4 years and its now plugged up. If the light at the top is red, its very possible its plugged.
If the line’s not crimped, the valve at the wall is not off and the filter is good (and installed correctly), the next likely culprit is the solenoid inside the fridge. This will not be easy to repair. It may be cheap if you can locate the valve and change it yourself. Since its already not working, you can turn the water off at the wall, pull the plug and remove the valve to find a replacement (and plug the fridge back in during the mean time). You might be able to find a cheap valve on ebay.
