Boy, did I learn a valuable lesson when I recently decided to look into the possibility of installing a GE Reverse Osmosis Water system in my home. I wanted to get away from the weekly hassle and expense of hauling 5 gallon water bottles for refill at my local water provider. GE reverse osmosis filters are a very well-known, well-respected brand, so it made sense to me to begin my research with them.

During the course of my investigation, I received a crash course in reverse osmosis water treatment. I discovered some thought-provoking facts that I’d like to share with you.

1. Originally reverse osmosis was developed as an industrial water filtering system for printing and photo processing. GE reverse osmosis water systems, along with other water purification companies, adapted this process for home use in response to the rising demand for clean water.

2. R.O. water purification works by forcing water under pressure through a permeable membrane. GE reverse osmosis filters operate the same way. Unfortunately, for every gallon of usable water produced by this system, two to three gallons of water is wasted. It’s possible to recover this wasted water, but you should know that it is a very expensive process

3. While effective at an industrial level, the residential application of reverse osmosis makes sense only for those home owners whose water sources are limited to salinated groundwater. For homes with access to municipal water, a system such as GE reverse osmosis water, may not be appropriate.

4. The “clean” water that a system like G.E. reverse osmosis water produces is stripped of vital minerals necessary for good health. Drinking this water means that you have to find other sources of calcium, magnesium and potassium, when, normally, all it would take would be to drink a glass of healthy water.

5. Some contaminants, such as certain harmful bacterias, are small enough to make it through the permeable membrane and into your water. It may be necessary to add a disinfecting step to a system like G.E. reverse osmosis filters.

6. Because of the expense of installing and maintaining such a system ($799.99 for a GE reverse osmosis replacement filter), other methods of water purification, such as drinking water filters and whole house filters, may be better suited for in-home use.

7. Residential reverse osmosis systems are usually installed in the kitchen and only treat water used for drinking and cooking. G.E. reverse osmosis water is no different. This means that the water dispensed in the remaining areas of the home – faucets, toilets, baths, showers, and washing machines is still in an unfiltered and, probably, undesirable condition.

Knowing these facts about GE reverse osmosis water purifiers, and their numerous competitive counterparts, made me rethink my approach to purifying the water in my home. After further research, I have found that there are more affordable, easy to install and maintain water purification systems available that will deliver clean, HEALTHY water for use by me and my family.

I hope you’ll take the information that I’ve shared with you about GE reverse osmosis filters and use it make the best decision about meeting your specific water filtration needs.

Reverse osmosis water filtering systems have been popular in the past but now seem to be fading fast in the wake of new, more effective technology. Let me explain.

These systems were originally designed for the paper and print industries to provide them with demineralized water. This is good for industry but bad for us! Using a reverse osmosis water dispenser could leave you with a mineral deficiency.

The World Health Organization states we should all drink water with the minerals like calcium and magnesium left in. Reverse osmosis water filtering systems strip them out of the water and amazingly due to the way their filters operate, they allow dangerous synthetic toxins to pass through as their molecules are smaller than water.

Whilst they are efficient at removing chlorine, the failure to get rid of these more dangerous toxins like herbicides, pesticides and prescription drugs is truly worrying.

Other factors to consider are the considerable space they need to enable them to get enough pressure, the fact they waste 3 gallons of water for every one used and that many are extremely noisy.

The very latest cutting-edge technology provides us with a much less expensive and far more effective alternative to the reverse osmosis water dispenser, namely the carbon block filter.

The very best ones use a multi-stage process with the added benefit of an ion exchange and sub micron filtering to remove 99.9% of contaminants, including the harmful synthetic ones, something that no reverse osmosis water filtering systems can achieve.

Just check the performance data sheet for a system to see exactly what it removes, and ask for it if it is not provided as many companies that sell RO systems are aware of the low removal rate.

As we are made up of 70% water, the quality of what we consume directly affects the quality of our health so it is vital we only have pure, healthy, great tasting water and not the type provided by reverse osmosis water filtering systems.

Visit my website today if you would like to learn more about the types of water filtration systems that I personally recommend and use.

Getting the naturally cool and great tasting water is now not a problem, there are ample of water coolers. It is worth to note that across Australia there are now various water coolers available from the web sites. With a few clicks these water coolers get delivered, to be more specific it is wise to note that besides these water coolers the water filtration systems can be also purchased online. As delivery is free of cost almost in all parts of the country, and even the charges of installation are also less, online water cooler purchase is at a rise.

There are few basic ideas that help while we hunt for the ideal water dispensers and water coolers. Bottled water coolers are now getting supplemented with the water filtration systems and most of the office water coolers that used bottled, are now replacing them. The mains fed water filters are easier to maintain and no one needs to change the water periodically. This is indeed convenient and more people are going for the mains fed ones for this cause. There are several water coolers and water filters offered online and the process of purchasing them is simple and hassle free.

The online water coolers and the water dispensers can be purchased by making payments through secured payment gateway. After the payments are successfully made, within a few days the water coolers or the water dispensers are delivered through courier. Across Australia these products are delivered. So, we can say that gone are the days of bottled water coolers and it is the time of hassle free online purchase. The sizes and the pictures remain clearly mentioned in the web portals and with a few clicks of mouse anyone can buy the water coolers. After buying a water cooler online, many of us think of the process of installation.

Once the water filters are delivered, plumbers reach to set them up. Just it is necessary to provide ample of water supply, the rest work is initiated and completed by the plumbers. The entire process is easy and it is done by the filter manufacturing companies who offer their products through the web sites. Finding a site that sells water filters is indeed easy. Just with the use of a popular search engine it is possible to get the details. Still it is worth mentioning that selection of the proper water dispensers or the water filters one should be aware that no compromise should be done with quality.

Though there are several online water filtration system providers offer their products, it is advisable to carry out self research while buying the office water coolers or filters. Besides selecting a suitable water cooler or a water filter, one should also check out the quality of the water dispensers. Bottled water coolers are sold at cheaper rates but now all these water coolers are getting supplemented. Water filters with reverse osmosis facilities are now highly in use, most of the reputed online water filter sellers facilitate reverse osmosis. It is prudent to mention in brief that reverse osmosis allow the flow of minerals that are required by human body while filtering out the unwanted and harmful minerals.

Reverse osmosis water filtering systems can be valuable for removing many water contaminants, including dissolved solids and arsenic.

A reverse osmosis system works by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane. Semi-permeable means that some molecules can pass through while others cannot. In theory, this forces clean water through the membrane, leaving all the contaminants behind. For most people and most circumstances, however, there are many better filters.

A reverse osmosis water dispenser tends to be bulky, taking up a lot of cabinet space under the sink, even while sharply limiting your pure water supply. And that’s probably the least of its drawbacks.

Here are the shortcomings of reverse osmosis water filtering systems:

1. They remove important trace minerals from drinking water, leaving the water strangely “flat” and tasteless. Even more important: natural water always contains trace minerals, and dissolved trace minerals in drinking water are a valuable source of magnesium, calcium and other nutrients. Other types of water filter can do an outstanding job of purifying drinking water and still leave trace minerals intact.

2. Reverse osmosis systems are extremely wasteful; all these systems waste much more water than they purify. The typical such filter creates three to five gallons of waste water for every gallon it filters.

3. They are also extremely slow. A reverse osmosis water dispenser can never keep up with high demand. The tank typically holds 1.5 to 2.5 gallons. Once this water is used up, you’ll be out of pure water, probably till the following morning.

4. Unlike faucet-mounted, counter top or carafe filters, they require plumbing modifications and should be installed by a professional. If modifying your plumbing and giving up cabinet space seems a reasonable tradeoff for an uncluttered kitchen counter and pure water, there are still lots of better choices.

5. Finally, a reverse osmosis water dispenser must be sanitized periodically with chlorine — a chemical that is highly undesirable in drinking water, despite its nearly universal use by municipal water systems.

For all these reasons, a reverse osmosis system is rarely your best choice for purifying your drinking water. There are highly effective water filters with none of these drawbacks.

Many people purchase a reverse osmosis water dispenser for their home in an effort to achieve clean and healthy drinking water. It is important for consumers to know that reverse osmosis water filtering systems have positive and negative attributes.

When you use a reverse osmosis water dispenser it will remove contaminants including dissolved solids and dangerous chemicals like arsenic. Reverse osmosis water filtering systems clean drinking water by forcing it through a semi-permeable membrane.

When the drinking water is forced through the semi-permeable membrane of a reverse osmosis water dispenser contaminants cannot pass through the filter with the water because they are too large.

Although reverse osmosis water filtering systems remove the majority of contaminants from drinking water they do have many drawbacks. For starters, reverse osmosis water dispensers are typically very large and take up a lot of the cabinet space under your sink once they are installed. There are many other filtration methods that use smaller devices than the reverse osmosis water filtering systems.

Reverse osmosis water dispensers are also extremely wasteful. During the purification process reverse osmosis water filtering systems waste more water than they actually purify. In general, the average reverse osmosis water dispenser wastes around 3 to 5 gallons of water for every 1 gallon of filtered water it provides filtered. Plus, reverse osmosis filtration systems are extremely slow and often are unable to keep up with the demand for water.

Possibly the most important thing to note about a reverse osmosis water dispenser is the fact that it removes the healthy minerals from water. Water is filled with essential, naturally occurring minerals that are vital for human health. Reverse osmosis water filtering systems remove these healthy, naturally occurring minerals during the filtration process.

The fact is, there are numerous other types of water filtration devices that filter water more efficiently. It is important to use a water filtration device that removes the unhealthy contaminants in drinking water but leaves the healthy minerals intact.

Reverse osmosis water filtering systems leave drinking water tasteless and flat without the minerals that make water so healthy for human consumption. The technology they use is outdated and inefficient.

It is unbelievable. A reverse osmosis water dispenser which was a top favorite once, seems to be gradually loosing its charm. With the growing awareness, people today are much more aware. If you have missed the details, here is a quick fact-sheet for you.

First things first. We need to understand how a reverse osmosis water dispenser works. It has a semi permeable membrane which has ultra fine pores on it. The contaminated water is forced to pass through this membrane. What is filtered and what is not, entirely depends on the molecular size of the contaminant.

Since water molecules are smaller than that of the pores, they pass through. Chemical and organic contaminants are larger in size, hence they are left behind. Thus they are separated from the water.

Fact 1: The pharmaceutical drugs which are a common contaminant have a small molecular size. The size is so small that they can easily pass through the porous membrane of a reverse osmosis water dispenser. Thus the water filtered from a RO is still contaminated and is still not pure.

Fact 2: The essential minerals like magnesium, sodium, iron found in the natural water have a large molecular size. Since their size is larger than that of the membrane, they are not able to pass through it, and are separated out from the water. Thus a reverse osmosis water dispenser ends up in de-mineralizing the water.

This de-mineralized water lacks all these minerals which are actually important for our health. Drinking water is one of the main sources of providing these minerals to our body. Consuming de-mineralized water results into mineral deficiencies, due to which various health problems occur. If you are consuming this water, you must take multi vitamins or supplements to meet the required content of these minerals in your body.

Moreover, since these minerals have been taken out, the water doesn’t tastes good anymore.

Solution: The easy and proven solution to this problem is to use a multi-stage water purifier. These filters work by a combination of ion exchange and carbon filtration techniques. They are efficient in removing all types of organic and synthetic pollutants from the water, even the pharmaceutical drugs. They also enhance the pH in the water.

Unlike RO filters, they do not separate out essential minerals, thus retaining the form water is available in the nature ? free from impurities and rich in minerals.

In conclusion, before selecting a filter, make sure to review and analyze the facts. The effective alternatives to reverse osmosis water dispenser are available. You just need to look for it and carefully pick the right water purifier.

If you are thinking of buying a reverse osmosis water dispenser, you might want to think again. Reverse osmosis water filtering systems were originally designed for people that live in rural areas and for large-scale treatment facilities. These “mini” versions that many companies are selling cost more than systems that are more effective.

Apparently rural homeowners and treatment facilities were not bringing in enough business. So, they decided to expand. The latest reverse osmosis water dispenser is designed for homeowners that have access to a public waterline. Often, they are recommended for individuals with poorly functioning immune systems, either because of illness or cancer treatment. Ingesting parasitic cysts, which may be present in tap water at any time, can be fatal to those people.

But, reverse osmosis water filtering systems are not the only choice for cyst removal. Any system that is certified to filter down to one micron will remove them. The better ones are certified to filter down to a half micron and can remove 99% or more of all cysts.

The biggest long-term health risk for people that are serviced by a public utility is chlorine. Reverse osmosis water filtering systems don’t reduce chlorine.

Chlorination is a necessary precaution to kill bacteria that are present in most water supplies, particularly during the warmer months of the year. It is also necessary to prevent algae from clogging the pipes. Many facilities perform an annual “flush”. Basically, they dump in large amounts of chlorine, maintaining the safety of water for consumption.

I don’t know about you, but I prefer not to drink yellow water. When they are flushing the pipes in our area, you can see the yellow powder floating in the glass and it smells like a swimming pool. How could anyone drink that?

The long-term health risks of regular chlorine consumption include stomach problems and cancer. A reverse osmosis water dispenser will not protect us from those things. But, granular carbon or a carbon block will. The best systems include a block-design, with a sub-micron sized porous structure to remove cysts and to insure that every drop of water is purified.

Reverse osmosis water filtering systems are sometimes recommended in areas that have naturally high levels of lead or when lead has become a problem because of aging pipelines. Ion exchange is a better, more affordable system for lead reduction.

Unlike a reverse osmosis water dispenser, which depends entirely on the function of the membranes to “filter”, a multi-stage selective filtration device includes filtration steps, adsorption steps, and ion exchange. These multi-stage units are far more effective than reverse osmosis water filtering systems, but they cost a whole lot less.

For example, there is an under-the-counter system that costs nearly $800, because it includes reverse osmosis. There is a selective filtration device that fits under the counter and is more effective. The cost is less than $150, when you buy it direct from the manufacturer. Now, you know what to think about before you buy a reverse osmosis water dispenser. Is it worth it?

Just imagine if you had recently bought an expensive reverse osmosis water dispenser and found that it didn’t make the water safe and stripped it of vital natural minerals. How would you feel?

This is exactly what has happened to many people and I hope this article will empower you not to make the same mistake by purchasing a reverse osmosis water dispenser.

These reverse osmosis water filtering systems can be worse than not having any filter at all. For a start, because their filters are so small, they strip out vital trace minerals like calcium and magnesium, which we require to stay healthy.

If we do not get these minerals, then the body will literally pull them from the teeth and bones, leaving us open to potential long term health problems. Nowhere on earth does demineralized water exist naturally.

These reverse osmosis water filtering systems were originally designed for the photographic industries which required large volumes of demineralized water, and then somehow became touted as a good idea for domestic filtering solutions, which they are not.

A recent World Health Organization study concluded that “drinking water should contain minimum levels of certain essential minerals.” So a reverse osmosis water dispenser goes against this unless you add yet another filter to repair some of the damage done, which is never as good after the event.

For every gallon of water they produce, approximately 2-3 gallons are wasted, an unacceptable fact in today’s water conscious world, and they are expensive to maintain.

A common complaint about a new reverse osmosis water dispenser is how unbelievably noisy they are. One guy threw it out on his porch after having had enough of the constant noise coming from the under sink cupboard!

We live in times where are water quality is dangerously poor, containing an average of 2100 chemical toxins, with herbicides and pesticides being found in the average glass of water here in the States.

The best water filtration systems on the market today use multi stage or twin filtration, and an activated carbon filter to remove 99% of all contaminants, something that a reverse osmosis water dispenser cannot do.

You can then enjoy the experience of drinking water that is totally safe, healthy and tastes great, secure in the knowledge you are protecting yourself and your family’s health not just for now, but for the future as well.

Make no mistake about it, a reverse osmosis water dispenser is not the solution, just part of the problem, so go ahead and research a little more and get yourself the best filtration system available.
