We recently purchased a Sears refrigerator with the PUR water filter. To our surprise, the filter indicater, above the water dispenser, began running low within just several weeks of our purchase. So, we ordered another one online thinking our water consumption was a little high due to peak baseball season and summer time. Still, replace it in just 6 weeks? We were perplexed, but ordered a new one any way. The new one indicated a need of replacement just about the previous, original one. When I spoke with a Sears Tech, I was informed that the water filter company mark their computer indicater to replace per an originally programmed and measured number of consumed gallons it holds. That does not mean it is no longer effective when you consume more than the anticipated number of water gallons. The tech told me to ignore the indicator as it could be a gimmick for the company to make more money. I was further advised to replace it in 6 months as it lasts that long without worries. And so we did, and did not notice any water taste change. You decide what you think!

Price was a little high for my taste, but other searches on the internet were priced even higher. My Kenmore fridge came with a Pur Ultra II filter that worked great for about 6 months. This one had a bad taste at the start, but it seems to be going away. Water taste seems okay now.

The new filter was damaged. We found out after I installed it and several days later the water pressure was really low. The 5 months old fridge was still under warranty. A repairman came out and tested the filter. He explained that filters often get internally damaged from shipping. I had to get a new filter and the problem went away. A costly and annoying incidence.

We were very happy to order the refrigerator ice and water filter cartridge from Amazon.com because this was the cheapest way we could get it. Sears wants to much money for this item, so it was a pleasure for us to order it at a much lower price from Amazon.com.
<br />Thank you Amazon for being there when we needed you the most!!!!!
